App review--The Ignatian Daily Examen

Seventh Tuesday after Pentecost

Today is review day.  I'm giving a brief review of an app. The author is Mark Thibodeaux, who is a Jesuit priests. The Jesuits, a Catholic order mostly known for their intellect and their education programs, was founded by St. Ignatius Loyala in the 18th century. The app is The Daily Examen.

The Daily Examen is a series of questions designed to allow you to reflect on you day and God's part in your day. It's usually 8 or 9 screens with a progression of thoughts and questions for you. They make you think about the role God has played in your day. They will often amaze you in showing how much a role God plays in your day.  The Examen takes about 15 minutes. I usually write down my answers, but you don't have to. There are thirty some different examens. The app gives you a different one every day. The examens so often give me a different perspective on my day, make me see things I passed by before, and show me God at work in places in my life that I haven't even realized.

Download it. It's: Mark Thibodeaux, The Daily Examen. You can also get it in book form for $12.95, but the app is free. It will better your life.

My thanks to my spiritual director, Justin Coleman, for putting me on to this.
So far I have gotten seven responses to the survey, including one from a friend I didn't even know was reading it. The responses have come from three different churches. I would like to get a lot more responses. The survey won't take you long.

Here are are the questions:

1. How often do you read the blog?
     a. every day (or every blog)   b. some days   c. occasionally

2. Which subject days do you like best? least?
     a. Monday--Faith Journey Narrative
     b. Tuesday--Reviews (books, movies, music, art, architecture, apps)
     c. Wednesday--Theology (just completed series on the Apostles' Creed)
     d. Thursday--Prayer and Spirituality
     e. Responses to comments during the week
     f. Bible study

3. Would you like for the blog to be shorter? Same length? Longer?

4. Would you like for the blog to be less frequent?

5. What suggestions do you have for making the blog better? Any other comments?

You don't have to answer all the questions. The main thing is that I simply want to hear from you, all of you. I readily accept criticism and suggestions. Let me hear from you.

We're going to the beach today for a little over a week. Jerry is going to work with me on getting the blog so I can write it from my laptop. If  you don't get the blog on Wednesday or Thursday, know that we didn't get it to work. Otherwise I'll write everyday except Sunday. Let me hear from you.
Faithfully
Christian
