Daily Office Decision

 Sixth Thursday of Lent

Lectionary Texts:
Mark 14:26-52

I have decided to do The Daily Office project. Many thanks to Justin Coleman for helping me to think through this and come to a good prayerful answer. Eight if you have signed on to help with the project. If you're concerned that you don't know what you have signed on to do, I don't know either.

I can tell you this much. The most you will be required to do is to read a weekly email from me and to read each part of the office as I write it. You can volunteer a lot more. Specifically, you can offer me feedback. You can read some or all of the things I'm reading. You can offer your comments on the reading and my questions about it. I know that at least one of you wants to help with editing. But remember, all you're required to do is read the once a week email and the Office as I write it.

The first phase will be some research on my part. It will begin with my re-reading (third time) The Rule of St. Benedict. As you may recall, Benedict of Nursia (Italy) created The Daily Office in the sixth century for the monks of his newly founded Holy Order to pray together every day. The book is short and is available in an inexpensive paperback from Amazon or B & N, if you want to read it. It is not difficult reading.

I don't intend to write again about the project on this blog, If any of you who are not in the project want to reconsider, I could use two or three more people.

God of our prayers,
I pray for the guidance of your Spirit in this project, I pray that both the creating it and the using it will be for our help and for your glory, Amen.

Faithfully,
Christian
