I Had a Good Day

 Sixteenth Monday after Pentecost

Monday is Faith Journey Narrative day on the blog. I have for the most part been going chronologically, but today is a departure to the present, or more specifically to this past Saturday.

I was in Manteo, in the NC Outer Banks, where Marianne and I have a condo. I was walking my dog Pretzel down an adjacent street past a nice one story apartment complex. About 100 yards ahead I saw a family, husband, wife, small boy, baby in stroller. From the tone of voices I could tell that an argument was going on between the husband and another man in a truck who had just pulled into the driveway. The wife left the argument with the kids and was walking in my direction. As she drew near, I saw that the front of a t-shirt was emblazoned with an assault rifle, AR-!5, I think. The boy approached my dog and asked if he was friendly. When I said yes, the boy petted him. The wife turned around to see her son petting my dog. I could then read the back of her t-shirt, which said, "If you don't understand this, I don't have enough crayons in the Crayola box to explain it to you."

The wife then turned to me, pointed back at the continuing argument between the husband and the man in the truck. She said, "They're having a stupid argument about a parking place. I left with the kids." Then she said, in a very sarcastic tone of voice, "Don't you just love people!" I answered, in a soft tone of voice, "Yes, I do love people." She was silent and looked a bit quizzical. I said, again in a soft tone and with a pleasant smile, "I really do love people."

She looked back at her husband, who had left the argument and was walking fast to catch up with his family. I said hello to him. The wife began to push the carriage. The boy followed. The wife said, "Have a good day."

Faithfully,
Christian
